I love slow-cook suppers…today it’s Turkey Chili and it already smells amazing…
*** Slow Cook Turkey Chili ***
1 lb. ground turkey (or beef) *This recipe is also delicious WITHOUT meat!
1 large green bell pepper (cut into 1 inch pieces)
2 sm. chili peppers (diced)
1 15.5 oz. can kidney beans
1 15.5 oz. can small red beans
1 15.5 oz. can lg. pink beans
1 15.5 oz. can black beans
1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes and green chilies
1 package Ortega brand Chili seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
Prepare your slow cooker; wash & rinse, place in a safe area and set on HIGH. Drain and rinse all of the beans and mix with canned tomato & chili-pepper mixture in the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for one hour, stirring frequently. Brown the turkey or beef and then add ground meat and chili seasoning to the beans in the slow cooker. Stir every 30 minutes or so. Season with salt and pepper, or additional cayenne pepper, to taste. Cook for at least 5 hours, best overnight.
Serve garnished with cheddar cheese and corn bread, tortilla chips or oyster crackers.
Using dried beans and fresh garden tomatoes will make this meal even healthier!
for HEAT: add one diced jalapeno pepper and two pinches of cayenne pepper
